Detentions Carried Out in Link to Supersized Unauthorized Waste Site

Two men have been detained as an element of an investigation into the illegal deposit of many thousands of metric tons of waste in a field in Oxfordshire, England.

Law enforcement indicated that a 69-year-old was detained at a dwelling in Hampshire's Andover, while a 54-year-old was arrested in the town of Slough in association with the massive pile of garbage deposited near Kidlington.

These apprehensions come after a previous investigation which exposed the presence of more than 500 unauthorized tips throughout the country of England, encompassing at least 11 so-called "super sites" greater than 20,000 tons.

A representative for the regulatory authorities commented that the apprehensions were for ecological and money laundering offences and represented a "key step" in continuing inquiries. The two individuals have been let go on conditional release.

Scale of the Issue

The illegal site in near Kidlington, positioned between the river Cherwell and the A34 highway, is estimated to contain around 21,000 tonnes of refuse in a pile which is up to 150m (490ft) lengthwise and 6m (20ft) tall.

Community Frustration

"The authorities is pledged to eliminating this category of crime across the UK, by augmenting resources to tackle environmental crime, employing more personnel and enacting more severe controls and fines for those who break the rules."

The detentions were executed on Thursday by officers from a dedicated serious crime team and are in addition to an previous detention of a man in his thirties from the Surrey area in November. He was let go pending more enquiries.
