Fans Demand Custody of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande visited Singapore for the Asia-Pacific debut of Wicked: For Good
Loyal followers of the actress are demanding that a man who leaped a barricade and seized the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared video shows the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing camera operators and lunging at Grande while the cast walked down a yellow carpet flanked by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being removed of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "released after being arrested", though legal records revealed that he was scheduled to attend court on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
History of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram account contains videos of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney show in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last winter.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is obviously a legal violation," wrote an Instagram user, in a message to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Voice Worry Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Many followers accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote one more comment on Instagram.
A number of fans also questioned event staff at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while some demanded online networks to ban Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Event Details
In clips shared widely, Grande seemed surprised when she was touched by the man. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Numerous of Singapore supporters had queued up to greet the performers of Wicked
Hundreds of fans had assembled in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore mall, including a number who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The motion picture, to be released on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a dual interpretation of the acclaimed stage production Wicked, which centers on the surprising friendship between two very different sorceresses.
The show itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a rosé sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of last year in the UK, and scored 10 Academy Award nods, earning several for best costume and artistic direction.
