Iranian Forces State Strike on American Facility in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.

Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing offensive targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is not yet known and the US has yet to issue a statement.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - reported they have intercepted missiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was attacking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with notable success and shot down a number of missiles," the statement continued.

The statement noted debris fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
