Ways the Denver Broncos and their 'play-dough' quarterback could halt that Chiefs' dominance.

NFL 2025 season: Week six

Live coverage features text commentary for Sunday's games on various channels, starting with the Broncos-Jets clash in London (from 14:00 BST). Also, audio coverage can be heard on designated networks covering another key matchup (beginning at 9 PM BST).

It's week six in the football calendar and following recent talk about the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles as possible championship contenders, each surrendered their perfect starts.

Striking in those games were the amount of penalties both committed. Philadelphia did so in key moments meaning they kind of beat themselves after leading by two touchdowns going into the final quarter versus Denver, who play in London this weekend.

But it proved good to observe how Denver's QB the rookie managed to have that deficit before lead three successful possessions in three attempts during the final period, securing the game by four points.

Denver have the defensive player of the year in CB Pat Surtain II. They are first in red zone defence, while the Eagles are number one in red zone offence, yet Denver won that contest.

They had the Eagles' number in terms of disguised blitzes. They did not necessarily sending more than four defenders instead they could position two linebackers in the interior then drop them out and send a slot defender off the edge.

At the start in the campaign, we said on a program how Denver might emerge as this season's dark horses. They ended the previous year well and did a good job of building upon that.

Are the Denver Broncos this year's dark horses?

Recently acquired tight end Evan Engram has stepped up big and recent RB JK Dobbins is a guy the team trusts. He now ranks 5th league-wide in ground gains (over 400) as well as tied for fourth for rushing touchdowns (4).

I love how the coach the Broncos' leader has "RUSH!" at the top on his call sheet.

That shows that Denver represent a squad aiming to prioritize the run, since you can do a lot off the back of that. It slows down the pass rush while keeps you in positive down and distances.

It's also benefited quarterback the young passer, who came into the league as a first-round selection last year, passing for 29 TDs – just behind a star QB for the rookie record (31 back in 2020).

Josh Allen and Herbert have powerful arms to pass all over, however they lack in the same way as Nix. He boasts exceptional passing ability, which is different, plus he's so athletic.

His strengths are his mobility, the capacity to pass on the run, and using varied release points to make throws when he rolls out of the pocket, the bootlegs. He is able to deliver precision throws across the middle or over the corner.

For a young quarterback, aged 25, he's got a lot of poise in the pocket and is not really fazed by the blitz. He aims to avoid a sack whenever possible and can pass under pressure. He has a high football IQ and remains very decisive.

When you consistently run the ball it consumes the clock and forces the defence to stay on the field extended periods, and if you have a mobile QB the defense must defend the field vertically side to side. It can be exhausting.

Nix has bitten back at Payton during games sometimes and I think Payton likes that attitude, that he's such a competitor. I think it's exciting for the coach to coach a rookie QB who's kind of like moldable clay. He can really develop him the way he wants to build it. I think it's a unique opportunity for him.

Payton has won a Super Bowl and now passed a legend for career NFL wins (173 - tied 14th overall). He has witnessed it all. In my opinion the achievements the Broncos are experiencing on offence is largely due to his guidance, his schemes, his game sense – and the combination with Nix aids shape him what he is.

You wouldn't want a more qualified person in your ear, to help you during some of the tougher situations and boost self-belief.

I believe in Denver's defence, in Bo Nix's tenacity and composure. But are they strong enough to face a top squad at its best? Because that wasn't championship-level play from Philadelphia in their last game.

Right now, I don't think the Broncos are incredible. They're performing better than most, that's a good place to hold the AFC West. All they need is to continue this trajectory.

They're really good at leaning into their forte, which is running the ball, and that's exactly what they should do versus the Jets at Tottenham. It's going to be a Dobbins-focused game, in essence.

New York have surrendered 140 rushing yards each contest (among the worst), five rushing touchdowns so far (10th worst), and they are the only team without a win a game.

Since the league started recording turnovers decades ago, this team are the first team to be without any turnovers in five outings, this is surprising considering that the head coach Aaron Glenn a defensive coach at the Detroit Lions.

The Chiefs' QB says the Chiefs have 'already lost too many games' after Monday's defeat to Jacksonville.

Following this Sunday's game, the Broncos face a manageable slate until their bye (in week twelve) - the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, the Texans and the Raiders prior to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Looking at their division, the Chiefs are 2-3 while Denver are even with the Chargers on 3-2 meaning they could make a run at leading the West.

It depends on which form Kansas City shows up they face since the Broncos {beat|def
