Zero Kieran McKenna Celtic FC Discussions as Craig Bellamy Commits to Wales

Both have been linked with the coaching position at the Premiership title holders following Brendan Rodgers' resignation on the start of the week.

The Manager's Position on The Scottish Club

The Ipswich boss referred to Celtic as "a really big football club" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "long-term project" with the Championship side.

The mid-thirties assumed control of Ipswich in recent years and led them to the English top flight with consecutive elevations, but they won just a handful of victories last season as they were relegated back to the second division and they currently sit twelfth place in the Championship.

"I have not had any of those conversations," the London-born former Northern Ireland young player said when questioned about being on the candidate list.

"It's not something I have considered seriously, or where any portion of my focus is currently.

"I possess a special position here at a special team. And we're at a crucial stage of the season. Everything outside of that hasn't touched my awareness."

Context and Agreement Details

Reports indicate that the manager would be open to speaking to Celtic given his childhood support.

"Growing up, we all have our preferences," he said when asked about these. "It's unlikely all people has to publicly and announce what they were, but naturally it's a massive football club."

The coach agreed to a new multi-year deal in 2024 and was questioned about his reported £5m release clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are things," he responded. "I'm unaware what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I tackle this role like I'll be Ipswich manager indefinitely. I understand that's not invariably going to be the situation, but I will consistently do my best as long as I am here."

The Welsh Coach's Situation

The former striker played for the Hoops on temporary transfer from the Magpies in 2005, but the former Welsh forward is inclined to complete the current global tournament campaign, a stance that would practically eliminate the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Celtic job.

The Welsh squad are currently third in their World Cup group behind leaders the Red Devils and runners-up Macedonia.

Wins over Liechtenstein and their rivals in next month would secure their position in the qualification play-offs, but they are all but assured of making those, thanks to a productive Nations League performance, even if they fail to end up their group runners-up.

Considering his present stance, the Wales manager, whose agreement expires after the European Championship, would not be available until following the play-offs at the minimum.
